Hey all! My name is Julia, former college student and a home decor enthusiast who loves DIY home improvement projects and finding creative ways to decorate any living spaces on a budget. Recently moved from my dorm to my new apartment which I renovated from scratch and I am here to help you with tips & tricks about home decor/college and more 🙂

This post shows you how to decorate your hallway to look more spacious.

How To Decorate Your Hallway To Look More Spacious

So far on my blog, I’ve written quite a few articles regarding how to decorate а living room, bedroom, bathroom, etc. However, I’ve never mentioned anything about hallway decor before.

Therefore, today I’ve decided to write about just that and give you some smart hallway decorating ideas.

If you have a small hallway, don’t worry, the situation is not hopeless. You just need to follow some steps to transform it into something beautiful and cozy.

Since my hallway is also small, the tips I’m about to give you come from personal experience and I assure you they work.

So, enough chit-chat, let’s get down to the matter of how to decorate your hallway to look more spacious.

How To Decorate Your Hallway To Look More Spacious

How to decorate your hallway to look more spacious?

1. Choose the right paint colors for the walls

One of the most important things is choosing the right paint colors for the walls in the hallway.

They have a huge impact on whether a decor will be pleasing to the eye or not. Very often, apartment hallways are small and have no windows.

Now, imagine a corridor that is poorly lit by sunlight, and all its walls are black. I felt claustrophobic, I don’t know about you.

For this reason, my suggestion to you is to choose a light color for the entrance hall of your apartment.

It’s best to go for white because it gives the feeling of more space and you won’t feel confined in there.

Beige, yellow, and many other colors in the light range are also great options.

2. Add greenery to your hallway

Plants are an ideal option if you’re looking to add freshness to a living space.

What you need to consider when placing flowers in the apartment corridor is that they should be smaller in size, but you can put more in return.

There are many interesting methods to decorate with plants. For instance, you can DIY a flower wall in the hallway. Read here if you want to learn more about how to do it.

Furthermore, apartment hallways usually don’t have access to direct sunlight and most households rarely heat them during the cold months.

For this reason, if you are going to decorate with real flowers, they should be ones that can withstand the conditions mentioned.

3. Use mirrors

Mirrors are a great way to visually enlarge the area of a room. If you want to feel the difference and make your hallway look more spacious, you can cover one of the walls with a huge mirror.

You won’t believe the effect it has.

I’ve been in a hallway where most of it is covered in mirrors and it’s not intimidating at all.

First, the walls were bright.

Second, most of them were covered in mirrors.

Third, there were a lot of lights reflecting off the mirrors which made it look even more spacious.

So, think about it. I assure you that the mirrors give the illusion that the space looks bigger than it is.

4. More lighting

As I mentioned a moment ago the lights in the hallway also play a major role. Especially in a corridor where little or no daylight enters, it is good to have plenty of artificial lighting.

Here again, you can rely on a variety of different types of light fixtures.

You could even set a theme for the hallway. For example, an Italian street and put in an imitation of a street lamp, some appropriate art, and whatever else you can think of that suits your idea.

Remember, lighting is very important if you are looking to achieve an effect of spaciousness in your living space.

And another very important thing is that the hallway is the last place you’ll check your appearance before you go out. It’s good to have very good visibility and lighting.

5. Create a clutter-free space

No matter how much we try to expand the space visually, the dimensions remain the same. So my advice is not to clutter the hallway with too many decorations.

Choose furniture that is appropriate in terms of size to match your apartment’s corridor.

Another piece of advice, place the furniture on one side only, this will help create space as there is plenty of room to pass through.

Moreover, don’t buy furniture for the hallway that goes all the way up to the ceiling. This is only suitable for larger rooms.

6. Put a rug in your hallway

Placing a rug is the easiest way to add character to your apartment’s corridor.

Thanks to the plethora of various shapes and sizes, many things can be achieved.

For example, if the flooring of the entire flat is black, a light-colored rug can be put along the entire length of the hallway to create contrast and enhance the design.

What’s more, rugs bring a lot of coziness, and comfort, protect the floor from damage, warm up your space, and reduce noise. These are just some of the many benefits that rugs have.

7. Don’t forget the art

As I mentioned earlier, you can set a theme for your entrance hall and art is a major player in achieving this effect. On the other hand, sterile white walls are boring.

Therefore, bring color into the hallway with the help of beautiful paintings. Just make sure, they are in harmony with the colors of the walls.

So apparently you can fall in love with a house th So apparently you can fall in love with a house that doesn’t even have walls yet..... is that a thing or just me? 😂

(concrete floors / muddy footprints / pipes sticking out of nowhere)
It’s giving: 30% chaos, 30% rain, 40% “trust the process”.

I walk through the entrance like “ok, future me, remember this” - the half bath that is just pipes, the laundry that’s still a puzzle, the pantry door where groceries will sneak in, the living room that already feels like movie night even though it’s basically a skeleton.

Then there’s the terrace view. You step out and suddenly all the noise, dirt, rain = background. Hills, trees, sky...... kind of looks like a desktop wallpaper that hasn’t fully loaded yet but I’m obsessed.

Upstairs via LADDER (gym membership who?) to bedroom / office / bedroom combo. One room for sleep, one room for work, one room for views that are honestly doing 90% of the emotional support right now.

(save this for the “before” / next time we’ll hopefully have stairs and less mud) 💭🏡✨

Second floor - DONE! ✅ I can’t even begin to tell Second floor - DONE! ✅

I can’t even begin to tell you how giddy I am right now (bursting-at-the-seams kind of excited, you know?). The moment is finally here and I get to share it with YOU my ride-or-dies! ☀️

First of all... can we talk about how the house is finally starting to look like an actual house?! (Like, is this real life or am I manifesting too hard?) And second — THE VIEW. OMG. The kind of view that makes you go “okayyyy, the wait was WORTH IT.” 📸🛠️

And yes, we kept going through the doom-and-gloom weather and the monsoon-level rain because... what’s that saying? When it rains, it pours — but make it aesthetic, right?!(Honestly, who do we think we are?) 🪜

So stay tuned, besties... the transformation era is just getting started. ✨

Babes, my hands are literally shaking (from excite Babes, my hands are literally shaking (from excitement… and maybe too much coffee, who knows?). 😅 I can’t even — the first floor of our house is DONE!!! Like, DONE done. Everything’s moving so fast I swear my brain can’t keep up (is this what adulting feels like?).

Two days ago we had nothing but an empty foundation, and now? All the rooms are just… THERE. Magic?? Nope — just the dream team working faster than I can say “where did my Virgo perfectionism go?” 👀

They were so quick and organized that even I — yes, Miss Overplanner 101 — was impressed. In just a few hours the house started sprouting like a mushroom (in the best way possible 🍄✨).

I’m honestly screaming — can’t wait to see what’s next. (Walls? Windows? My Pinterest board finally coming to life???) Stay tuned, because this is getting REAL. 🏡💖
We’re BACK in the game (like, for real this time 💃 We’re BACK in the game (like, for real this time 💃). The next brigade showed up looking all fresh, fired up, and ready to slay! ☕🔥 We literally started by lifting the house (yes, you heard that right — the HOUSE 😳), and from there it’s been non-stop thrills on thrills.

Everything’s picking up pace, the vibes are ✨ immaculate ✨, and honestly? It feels like something BIG is coming (manifesting it, okay?). So buckle up, grab your iced coffee, and stay tuned — this week’s about to be a wild ride. 💖🏗️👀
Besties… some days just hit different, you know? 😏 Besties… some days just hit different, you know? 😏 There are days when life feels like a Pinterest board come to life — and then there’s last week. (Oh boy.) It poured for days — like, actual biblical-level rain, no joke — and the streets? FLOODED. 🌧️🌊 Ours too (of course… because why not?). We’ve been basically living in a mini Venice over here. But today — finally — we managed to drain some of the water (cue dramatic happy tears). 🥹💧 So yeah… the party’s back on, soggy shoes and all. Because if life gives you floods… grab a towel and keep dancing, right? 💃✨
